Snapchat Memories storage plans: prices, what you get, and are they worth it?

Short answer: Snapchat gives you 5 GB of Memories storage for free. If you need more, the cheapest option is a 100 GB Memories-only plan for $1.99 a month or $20 a year in the US. Snapchat+ typically includes 250 GB, and Snapchat+ Platinum includes 5 TB (Snapchat Support). Paying is worth it if you want to keep opening, editing and sharing old Memories inside Snapchat. If you just want to keep them, downloading a copy is free, and Snapchat lists it as an option.

Prices change. US prices below were checked on 29 October 2026. They vary by country and currency; your Snapchat app shows the price where you live.

Snapchat's Memories storage plans

Plan Memories storage US price
Free 5 GB Free
Memories-only plan 100 GB $1.99/month or $20/year
Snapchat+ typically 250 GB $3.99/month at launch*
Lens+ same as Snapchat+ see app
Snapchat+ Platinum 5 TB $15.99/month at launch*
Snapchat+ Family plan 250 GB for each member (subscriber + 2 people) see app

Storage amounts and the 100 GB price are from Snapchat's help pages (storage, Snapchat+ plans). *Snapchat+ and Platinum prices are what Snap told TechCrunch in October 2025 (TechCrunch); check the app for today's price. Some plans aren't available in every country.

To upgrade, open Memories and tap Upgrade Storage.

One thing that's wrong in some search answers: you may read that Snapchat "will start deleting newer" Memories to bring you back under 5 GB if you don't pay. That was how the plan was first reported in 2025 (TechCrunch). Snapchat's help page now says the opposite: no automatic deletion, and your most recent year of Memories stays open (Snapchat Support).

Do you need a plan at all?

First, check how much you use: Settings → My App → Memories, then look under Cloud Storage (Snapchat Support).

Paying vs downloading: what you actually get

Two options: pay for storage and everything stays in Snapchat, or download a free copy that stays with you
Two ways to keep Memories over 5 GB: pay Snapchat, or download a copy that's yours.
Pay for a storage plan Download a copy (free)
Open, edit and share old Memories in Snapchat Yes Only the ones that stay open
Your Memories outside Snapchat (gallery, drive, cloud) Not by itself Yes
Keeps working if you stop paying No: over 5 GB, older Memories get archived Yes, the copy is yours
Cost over 5 years (100 GB plan, US) $100 with yearly billing, $119.40 monthly Free (plus storage you may already have)
Effort One tap A one-time export, plus fixing the files

The two aren't exclusive. Many people download a copy and keep a plan for a while.

If you cancel a paid plan and you're still over 5 GB, Snapchat says the app shows your storage status and your options, including upgrading again (Snapchat Support).

How to keep your Memories for free

  1. Request your export at accounts.snapchat.com → My Data, with Export your Memories and Export JSON files turned on. Snapchat aims to deliver it within 7 days (steps).
  2. Fix the export. It comes with captions as separate files, no dates inside the files, places in a separate file and long videos in pieces. Memories Fixer puts all of that back in your browser; nothing is uploaded. It's free, for photos and videos.
  3. Store it where you like: Google Photos, iPhone and iCloud, Google Drive or an external drive.

What other storage costs, for comparison

If you move your Memories to a photo service, you pay for that storage instead (or use free space you already have):

The difference: that space holds all your photos, not just Snapchat Memories.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save Snapchat Memories without paying?

Download them with Snapchat's free My Data export and keep them on your phone, computer, a drive or a photo service. Steps: How to download all your Snapchat Memories. Then fix the export so captions, dates and places are back (Memories Fixer, free).

Are Snapchat Memories saved forever?

Snapchat keeps your Memories unless you delete them. Over 5 GB without a plan, some older ones are archived from January 2027: still stored, but locked until you upgrade or download them (Snapchat Support). A copy you keep yourself doesn't depend on any of that.

Is Snapchat Memories storage unlimited?

Not anymore. Since Snapchat's September 2025 announcement, 5 GB is free and more space needs a plan (Snap Newsroom).

How much does Snapchat Memories storage cost?

In the US, the 100 GB Memories-only plan costs $1.99 a month or $20 a year. Prices vary by country; the app shows yours.

Do I get Memories storage with Snapchat+?

Yes. Snapchat says Snapchat+ typically includes 250 GB, Lens+ includes the same, and Platinum includes 5 TB. On a Family plan, each member gets 250 GB.

Do Snapchat Memories take up storage on my phone?

Memories are stored in Snapchat's cloud and count toward your Memories storage. The app also keeps a cache on your phone; Snapchat says clearing it (Settings → Clear Cache) doesn't delete any Memories (Snapchat Support).

Will I lose my Memories if I don't pay?

No. Snapchat says it won't automatically delete Memories because you don't upgrade. Over 5 GB, some older Memories are archived from January 2027 (details).
